Led Zeppelin LP • CD Redesign

Objective

The objective of this assignment was to create a redesign of a pre-existing LP of our choice that represents the heart and style of the album through photography, typography, and visual elements. I chose Led Zeppelin's self titled first album, a heavy, blues rock sound telling the story of loving a woman who is always just out of reach.

Inspiration

Pictured to the right are a few photos from my moodboard for this project. I decided to focus on a combination of warmer color palette and black and white options.

Sketching

My first step was to listen to the entire album start to finish, dissecting the story and the feel of the music as a whole. Then, I started sketching some concept ideas.

Photography

I decided on a warm, hazy, wistful feel as the direction of the photos for this album. In approaching the photoshoot, I had a few shots in mind beforehand, but I focused on getting a wide range of photos to decide in post what I would use for the different album pieces. Pictured below are some of my edited photos from that shoot.

Collage

While making digital iterations, I found myself collaging several images together on an artboard. To support a nostalgic, warm feeling in the design, I decided to experiment with scanning physical collages, then combining them with digital typography.
